Ten convicted of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of spreading false claims regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to making defamatory statements about the pair's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A longstanding false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.
Their legal filing states that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she taught at his lycée.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
